Purpose and Scope

Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and FMS policy requirements.

Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in compliance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.

Duties / Activities
Customer Service
  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards.
  • Provide outstanding service to all customers.
  • Develop effective relationships through communication.
  • Respond promptly to customer issues.
Patient Care
  • Educate patients on adequacy measures and disease process.
  • Greet patients, monitor well-being, and report concerns.
  • Evaluate vascular access and obtain vital signs.
  • Assist with vascular access cannulation and report difficulties.
  • Administer Heparin as delegated.
  • Initiate and evaluate dialysis treatment, monitor response, and document findings.
  • Discontinue treatment following procedures, ensuring patient safety.
  • Perform post-treatment assessments and documentation.
  • Calculate and program dialysis machines accurately.
  • Ensure safety alarms are active and respond to alarms.
  • Record treatment data accurately and timely.
  • Report significant patient changes to the nurse supervisor.
  • Monitor vascular access during treatment and intervene as needed.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
Maintenance/Technical
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Disinfect equipment and surfaces between treatments.
  • Prepare and organize supplies and equipment.
  • Perform machine alarm tests and system initiations.
  • Clean spills and handle waste appropriately.
Clerical & Administrative
  • Participate in CQI activities.
  • Enter data accurately and review treatment sheets.
  • Prepare charts and lab requisitions.
  • Handle lab samples and coordinate with labs.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional assigned duties.
Additional for Home Program Technicians
  • Assist with home visits, education, and supply management.
  • Prepare and maintain home treatment equipment and records.
  • Support patient education and supply inventory management.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Includes lifting, standing, bending, and working in healthcare environment conditions. Reasonable accommodations are considered. Employees must pass Ishihara’s Color Blindness Test. Travel between facilities and community locations is required.

Education
  • CMS-approved certification or high school diploma/GED with certification within required timelines.
  • State licensure, education, and training as applicable.
Experience and Skills
  • Preferred experience in hospital or healthcare settings.
  • Successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.
