Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting quality improvement initiatives.
Education: Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures and disease management.
Treatment: Welcome patients, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, monitor vital signs, initiate and discontinue dialysis, document treatment details, and respond to patient needs and complications.
Assist in training direct care staff under supervision of a nurse.
Follow organizational policies, maintain a clean environment, prepare equipment, and ensure proper documentation.
Participate in CQI activities, accurately enter treatment data, prepare charts, and manage lab specimens.
Support infection control practices, participate in audits, and educate patients and families.
Support new patients through their first 4 weeks, reinforce education, coordinate care, and assist with home dialysis transition.
Involve patient handling, equipment use, and exposure to health risks, with accommodations available for disabilities.
High school diploma or G.E.D. required; meet certification and licensure requirements; demonstrate commitment to organizational values.
Preferred experience in patient care; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.
