Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:

1. Patient Related: Educate patients, evaluate vascular access, perform dialysis procedures, monitor patient response, document treatments, and communicate patient status to the team.
2. Staff Related: Assist in training staff on patient care programs.
3. Education/Communication: Follow policies, ensure environment safety, disinfect equipment, and prepare for treatments.
4. Record Keeping: Document treatment data, participate in CQI activities, and prepare patient charts and lab specimens.
5. Infection Control: Support infection control practices and participate in audits.
6. Transitional Care Unit: Support new patients through their initial dialysis treatments and coordinate care.
7. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and standing for prolonged periods, and work in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious materials.
8. Education and Licenses: High school diploma or G.E.D., valid state licensure, and certification as required.
9. Experience and Skills: Previous patient care experience preferred; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR required.
