General Summary Of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Franklin Square Hospital! The ideal candidate will have basic math knowledge, verbal/written communication skills, and basic computer skills.

As a Patient Care Technician, you will function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Assists medical and nursing staff with procedures and tests and patients with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). Performs activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, and documentation. Duties may vary based on the work area and patient needs.

Primary Duties

• Assist patients with ADLs and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, and toileting.
• Collect specimens, perform venipuncture, EKGs, and apply telemetry monitoring. Insert and manage IVs, document intake/output, and record vital signs and other data.
• Perform treatments such as tube feedings, ostomy care, catheter care, dressing changes, and assist with patient positioning and transfers.
• Maintain patient comfort, privacy, and dignity. Observe patients, assist providers, and respond to patient questions. Report changes to the care team and assist in CPR if needed.
• Ensure cleanliness and safety of patient environment, assist with linen changes, equipment stocking, and patient transport.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 12 months experience as a CNA.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) preferred.
• Experience in healthcare settings or as a student nurse is a plus.

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
