Job Overview

This role provides direct patient care and assists with unit coordination. The technician performs basic nursing procedures for stable patients and supports RNs with acutely ill patients. Responsibilities include practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, adhering to hospital policies, responding to emergencies, and documenting care accurately. The technician works under RN supervision and assists with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Responsibilities
  1. Provides direct patient care: Activities include ADLs, skin surveys, vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, intake/output, meal assistance, height/weight, blood glucose testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, and assisting with exams and treatments. (30%)
  2. Participates in quality and satisfaction initiatives: Bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, safety protocols, hand hygiene, isolation, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
  3. Documents accurately: Vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimens, and treatments. Reports changes and concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
  4. Supports unit activities: Supply stocking, equipment cleaning, checks, and retrieval. (20%)
  5. Performs additional duties: As assigned. (Remaining percentage)
Qualifications
Minimum
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Limited or no experience; able to attend 2 weeks of training
  • Ability to read, write, follow instructions, perform basic math, and use computers
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 background clearances
Preferred
  • Recent acute care experience within 3 years
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
