Baystate Health in Springfield, MA is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Observation Department to provide age-appropriate care, monitor patients, and collaborate with nurses and physicians to deliver safe, compassionate care during night shifts. This part-time night position offers 12-hour shifts, weekend rotation every other Friday/Saturday night, and comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

  • GED or HiSET required or equivalent.
  • Experience assisting with patient monitoring and vital signs.
  • Ability to perform approved procedures under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate patient care and monitor condition.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, inputs/outputs, and changes.
  • Assist with examinations, dressing changes, EKGs, and tests.
  • Support nurses and providers during procedures and care activities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team.

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our Observation Department team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our Observation Department team provides care to a diverse adult patient population, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compassionate, high‑quality care.

Patient Care Technician Responsibilities Include:
  • Patient Care & Monitoring: Provides safe, age‑appropriate care; obtains and documents vital signs, measurements, intake/output, and changes in patient condition; promptly reports concerns to the appropriate clinical team member.
  • Clinical Procedures & Testing: Performs approved treatments and procedures, including dressing changes, specimen collection, EKGs, Point‑of‑Care testing, and other unit‑specific clinical functions in accordance with Baystate Health policies.
  • Treatment & Provider Support: Assists nurses and providers with examinations, treatments, procedures, elimination needs, and other delegated patient care activities; monitors patients and reports unexpected changes.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Communicates respectfully and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team; recognizes culturally based needs and supports both clinical and non‑clinical team activities.
  • Patient Safety & Emergency Response: Maintains patient safety, initiates appropriate emergency procedures, provides one‑to‑one patient observation when required, and maintains required clinical competencies.
Schedule Details

Job Type: Part‑Time, 36 hours per week
Shift: Night, 7pm-7:30am
Schedule: 12‑hour shifts
Weekend Requirement: Every other Friday and Saturday Night
Holiday Requirements: Every other Holiday

Compensation Note

Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non‑exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees. Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum $17.01 - $20.80 - $25.87
