- CNA certification or successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training course or minimum six months of previous patient care experience or equivalent or completion of one nursing clinical rotation
- American Heart Association CPR Certification

General Summary:
Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital, exhibits a service orientation, and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the hospital. Performs the following duties and responsibilities:
- Provides care to patients on assigned nursing unit under the direction of a Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, and members of the healthcare team in a respectful manner.
- Uses standard precautions with all patients, including special precautions as ordered based on pathology, utilizing all personal protective equipment.
- Assists with patient hygiene based on the level of assistance required.
- Assists with meeting the elimination needs of patients, including helping them to the bathroom or use bedside commode.
- Prepares patient rooms for new admissions by setting up ECG cables, leads, SPO2 cables, and blood pressure cuffs.
- Assists RNs in admitting new patients by attaching ECG cables, pulse oximetry, and taking initial vital signs, including patients with Covid-19.
- Helps meet nutritional needs by assisting patients with eating, if needed.
- Assists with ambulating and range of motion exercises.
- Follows policies and procedures related to patient and staff safety, including safe patient handling guidelines.
- Documents vital signs and blood glucose results accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned between patient uses.
- Uses fall and high-risk precautions as needed, following RN directives.
- Performs rounding and repositioning every two hours.
- Communicates any changes in patient condition to the RN promptly.
- Maintains clinical competency, tested annually by Nursing Education.
- Performs 12-lead ECGs as directed by the RN.
- Organizes and stocks nursing supplies efficiently.
- Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Records output from Foley and colostomy bags as directed.
- Prepares linen supplies before patient bathing or cleaning.
- Performs daily quality controls for Accu-Check.
- Assists with housekeeping duties, including trash disposal.
- Supports nurses in patient admission processes.
- Checks vital signs on all patients at shift end if no CNA is scheduled.
- Gives hand-off reports to the oncoming CNA.
Other Functions:
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Patient Care/Age Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications:
CNA working in specialty areas should possess knowledge specific to that patient population, including age-specific needs. Each specialty unit provides specific credentialing.
