Overview:

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Leigh Hospital on the Med Surg/ Hematology Unit.

Hours/Shift:

Part-time, night shift, approximately 6pm to 6am, 24 hours per week.

Department/Position Overview:

This is a newly established, state-of-the-art 24-bed unit that offers a wide range of medical diagnoses including CHF, COPD, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Diabetes, and Stroke. Our specialty includes caring for patients with chronic blood disorders such as Sickle Cell. Our staff members come from diverse backgrounds, enabling us to provide culturally competent care. Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff who work under the supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated nursing care tasks. Responsibilities include providing patient care, supporting admissions and discharges, and ensuring patient safety. They observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report changes to the nurse.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Certification/Licensure:

• American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Minimum requirements: Must have one of the following
  
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
  • Successful completion of the CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), or
  • Current enrollment in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
  • Recent work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Experience: One year of healthcare experience preferred.
