Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Intensive Care Unit. This full-time daytime role (6am–6pm) works under supervision of a professional nurse to deliver delegated nursing care.

Duties include patient care, admissions/discharges, and reporting patient changes, with emphasis on compassionate family interaction and safety. Required are a High School Diploma or equivalent and BLS within 90 days; candidates may hold CNA / NCMA / NCPCT certifications or

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must have one of the following certifications or training programs listed by Sentara (see ad): CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps School, EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT/Paramedic credentials, or be in a clinical RN/LPN/RT/PT program, or have recent PCT/Nursing Assistant experience.

  • Assist with admissions and discharge processes.
  • Observe patient conditions and report changes to the nurse.

Work alongside our experienced patient care technicians and RNs to perform intense patient care. Excellent customer service skills are needed to work closely with patients and their family members. We encourage all interviewed applicants to shadow our unit to see firsthand how rewarding this position can be.Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse.
