Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to support the care team in a high-volume hospital setting in Worcester, MA. The role involves direct patient care, vital signs, EKGs, POC tests, and collaboration with RNs and clinicians to ensure patient safety and comfort.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, current BLS certification, and at least 6 months of direct patient care experience or 800 hours as PCT I.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Demonstrated competency in Patient Care Technician I level with 800 hours or 6 months direct patient care experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN about patient observations and changes.
• Maintain constant observation for high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist with daily living activities and safe patient handling.
• Perform basic clinical tasks such as measuring vital signs, EKGs, POC tests, and specimen handling.
• Support treatments and procedures under supervision, ensuring sterile technique when indicated.
