Job summary

The Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) is seeking a PRN Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff under RN supervision. Responsibilities include vital signs, monitoring devices, and assisting with basic treatments in a patient-centered setting.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED and a current BLS certification, with prior healthcare experience preferred. The position is hourly, with a 12-hour weekly schedule and on-site duties at MUHA facilities in Columbia, SC.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and maintained thereafter.
• 1 year of patient care experience in healthcare preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Monitor vital signs and patient condition; report concerns.
• Assist nursing staff with basic treatments and supplies.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor and monitor devices.
• Perform blood sugar checks and other routine assessments.
• Assist with moving/relocating patients as needed for comfort and safety.
• Provide emotional support to patients and families.
• Assist with other duties assigned by department leadership.
