Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Patient Care Technician to support nurses in a high-acuity unit. Under RN supervision, you will measure and document vital signs, assist with daily living activities and ensure patient comfort and safety.

This PRN, hourly role emphasizes patience, empathy, and clear communication. You will monitor patients, assist with basic treatments and relay concerns to the care team as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of patient care experience in a health care facility preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (personal hygiene, using the restroom, grooming, etc.).
• Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse etc.) or EKG signals and patient condition.
• Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies, linen is clean.
• Assist patients with particular issues or needs.
• Provide appropriate emotional support.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor.
• Empty drains, ostomies, foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by the department leader.
