Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff by delivering patient-centered care, assisting with ADLs, and supporting therapies. The role involves vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and basic procedures under supervision.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, and may be enrolled in EMT/Paramedic programs. EMT/Paramedic enrollment is preferred; experience with eRecord systems is a plus.

Qualifications

• Performs patient care tasks and ADLs under RN supervision.
• Maintains accurate vital signs, I&O, and specimen collection.
• Assists with phlebotomy, EKGs, dressing, catheter care, and other unit tasks.
• Communicates changes in patient status to the RN promptly.
• Adheres to safety policies and hospital procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
• Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
• Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
• Establishes professional relationships and supports unit activities.
• Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.
