Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, IA is hiring a Patient Care Technician to deliver hands-on patient care under RN supervision. You will assist with activities of daily living, mobility, and procedures while documenting observations accurately.

We value compassionate, family-centered care and teamwork, with a rotating shift (7p-7a) 36 hours a week and every third weekend and every other holiday. Training and certification support provided.

Qualifications

• License requirements include CNA or EMT-B certification.
• Must have a valid driver's license for work-related travel.
• BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
• Must be 18 years or older.

Overview

Shift: 7p-7a. every 3rd weekend and every other holiday, 36 hours/week

Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Patient Care Technician delivers hands‑on patient care and comfort, assists with clinical procedures and technical tasks, and accurately observes, reports, and documents patient status. The role supports safe, efficient unit operations by focusing on personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, elimination, and prevention of complications, while preparing patients and environments for procedures. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, the PCT provides compassionate, patient- and family-centered support across diverse care settings to promote quality outcomes and a positive experience.

Responsibilities

• PCT performs patient care and treatments under supervision of a RN. Provides and documents care including, but not limited to, activities of daily living, mobility, specimen collection and respiratory support activities as directed by the RN.
• Possess the ability to lift, move, position and transport patients.
• Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of care, patient and employee safety, and customer service.

Qualifications

License(s)/Certification(s):

Basic CNA Course or EMT-B Certification

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
