Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for an evenings shift (3:00 PM–11:30 PM) with every 4th weekend, 16 hours/week. Under RN supervision, the PCT delivers direct patient care, assists with procedures, observes and documents patient status, and supports unit operations with safety and compassion.

Preferred CNA certification; BLS required within 3 months of hire. 16+ age, ability to lift/move patients, and commitment to quality care are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years old or older
• Level 3 Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

• PCTs will perform patient care and treatments under supervision of a RN. Provides and documents care including activities of daily living, mobility, specimen collection, and respiratory support as directed by the RN.
• Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three months from date of hire.
• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of care, patient and employee safety, and customer service.

Education

CNA certification preferred

Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Patient Care Technician delivers hands‑on patient care and comfort, assists with clinical procedures and technical tasks, and accurately observes, reports, and documents patient status. The role supports safe, efficient unit operations by focusing on personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, elimination, and prevention of complications, while preparing patients and environments for procedures. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, the PCT provides compassionate, patient‑and family‑centered support across diverse care settings to promote quality outcomes and a positive experience.
