Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support clinical decision unit operations. The role offers full-time, 36 hours/week with 12-hour day shifts (6:30a–7:00p).

Training pathways exist for new hires through Mercy's UAP program, with potential progression along the UAP ladder from PCA to PCT to NT. Ideal candidates may have EMT, Paramedic, or prior patient care experience and must obtain BLS within one month of hire and PCT competencies

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program or age 18+ and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program.
• BLS certification within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months.
• Preferred EMT, Paramedic or prior patient care experience (e.g., PCA, CNA, or nursing student).

Responsibilities

• Assist in individualized patient care under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
• Perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to patient care.
• Work cooperatively with others as part of a team to achieve unit goals.

Position Details

Patient Care Technician-PCT* Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO Department: Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) Status: Full-Time, 36 hours/week Shift: 12 Hour Days (6:30a - 7:00p) *Will consider candidate experience once in offer stage. This job profile/title may be updated along UAP Career ladder to offer candidate most appropriate role per their individual experience level if additional qualifications are met. UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT.

Qualifications

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Required Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
