Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Part Time Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Burn Trauma unit. The role includes assisting with daily living activities, vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG testing, specimen collection, and Foley catheter care under RN supervision.

Two 12-hour day shifts, weekends rotation, 24 hours per week. Credentials include a high school diploma or equivalent and either CNA/NCMA/NCPCT certification or an approved clinical program.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent, and one of the following is required.
• CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or equivalent certification is acceptable.
• One year of health care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, and monitors vital signs under RN supervision.
• Observes patients' conditions and documents changes, communicating with nurses and medical staff promptly.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Burn Trauma unit. This is a Part Time, Day Shift (12-hour shift) position.

Hours:

7AM to 7PM - Two 12-hour shifts (24 hours/week), with rotating weekends.

Department Overview:

Burn Trauma is a 34-bed mixed Intermediate care and medical/surgical unit. There are 17 beds forstepdown/intermediatelevel of care. The patient population is neurosurgery, trauma, burns and orthopedic trauma. The intermediate care patients are received from both the Burn/Trauma ICU and the Neurosurgical ICU.There are also 17 beds for medical/surgical level of care for neurosurgical, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss (gastric bypass and gastric sleeves).

Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)and one of the following is required:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or

• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or

• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or

• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or

• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or

• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or

• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program, or

• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• One year of health care experience (Preferred).
