Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the 5 West Teaching and Innovation Unit. You will work under an RN to deliver direct clinical and support services and participate in patient and family care using a patient-centered model.

The role emphasizes teamwork with the healthcare team, meeting duties in Critical Care, and ensuring a collaborative environment that supports teaching and innovation in nursing workflows.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS/CPR certification required or obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing.
• Physical ability to meet job duties; basic math and computer skills.
• Fluency in another language is a plus.
• Previous medical/surgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care unit and their families.
• Clinical tasks include vital signs, bathing, feeding, dressing wounds, hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and well-equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
• Support efficient operation and contribute to quality patient/family outcomes.

ABOUT THE Critical Care/ Innovation Unit DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:

BMCs Teaching Innovation Unit explores nursing model redesign aimed at directing Registered Nurses (RNs) to work to the top of their license. RNs who are selected for this unit should be prepared to work on innovation teams that pilot, measure and evaluate the effectiveness of new technologies and workflows. The Teaching Innovation Unit’s clinical setting is designed to provide an optimal teaching/learning environment through the collaborative efforts of RN leaders, healthcare team members and clinical education. POSITION SUMMARY

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
• Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
• Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• A high school diploma or GED certificate
• Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing
• Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
• Basic math and computer proficiency
• One of the following:
• Fluency in another language a plus
• Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Compensation Range

$23.19- $27.17

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
