Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Dialysis Technician in North Carolina to provide safe and effective therapy under nurse supervision. You will set up and operate hemodialysis machines, welcome assigned patients, and assess wellbeing while documenting treatments and lab specimens.

Key tasks include monitoring vitals, cannulation, vascular access, and UF goal calculations, with emphasis on patient education and infection control in a hospital or clinic setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
• CMS-approved state and/or national certification required within state or CMS timeline.
• All appropriate state licensure, education and training required.
• CPR certification is required.
• Past patient care experience in a hospital or related facility preferred.

Job description

• Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse


• Set up and operate hemodialysis machines


• Welcome assigned patients and assess their wellbeing


• Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law


• Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights


• Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures


• Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems as prescribed or directed


• Monitor patient response and report significant changes to the registered nurse or supervisor


• Perform vascular access monitoring, hemostasis, dressing application, and discharge evaluation


• Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling


• Perform machine safety checks and required alarm testing, including Pressure Holding Testing (PHT)


• Clean and disinfect machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments


• Obtain laboratory tests, collect and prepare specimens, and coordinate courier collection


• Maintain accurate treatment documentation, clinical application records, charts, requisitions, and CQI records


• Support infection control audits, practices, and patient/family education


• Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care


• Educate patients on treatment options and home dialysis products and benefits


• Demonstrate peritoneal dialysis setup and assist with modality transitions


• Set up and perform treatments on machines in the transitional care unit


• Assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory


• Assist in training applicable direct patient care staff under nurse supervision


• Maintain a safe, clean, and aesthetically appropriate environment

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required


• Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline


• All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required


• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred


• Continued employment dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program


• Continued employment dependent on successful completion of CPR certification


• Must perform duties in compliance with organization policies, procedures, training, and applicable state and federal regulations


• Must be able to perform heavy lifting and moving of patients and assist with ambulation


• Frequent, prolonged standing and ability to bend over required


• Ability to push/pull equipment with up to 15 pounds of force


• Ability to lift/lower solutions up to 30 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally, as high as 5 feet


• Must pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment, with reasonable accommodations considered


• Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations
