Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) who reports to the Nurse Manager under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The PCT will perform multi-skilled activities to support a patient-centered approach and achieve outcomes by measuring and documenting vital signs and reporting patient concerns to colleagues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire; maintain BLS certification thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (personal hygiene, using the restroom, grooming, etc.).
• Monitor vital signs or EKG signals and patient condition.
• Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies, linen is clean.
• Assist patients with particular issues or needs.
• Provide appropriate emotional support.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor.
• Empty drains, ostomies, foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by the department leader.
