Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Short Stay unit on the night shift. The PCT provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting with ADLs and maintaining a clean, safe care environment.

Training is provided to ensure success and confidence in duties. The role supports post-operative patients and those undergoing procedures, with shifts including 6:30 am–3:00 pm, 2:30 pm–11:00 pm, 10:30 pm–7:00 am, and other 12-hour

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year of direct care experience or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• Assist patients in completing ADLs including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation with assistive devices, feeding and menu selection.
• Collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures; insert and remove peripheral IV catheters; record patient information in required documentation.
• Short Stay unit comprises 43 rooms (22 bays and 21 private rooms).
• Care for adult patients post-surgery or post-procedure; length of stay typically 24–48 hours, with some patients staying longer for observation or inpatient status.

Position Purpose

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Shifts Available

6:30 am-3:00pm; 2:30pm-11:00pm, 10:30pm-7:00am, 7pm-7am, and 7am-7pm

Status Available

Full-time, Part-time

Weekly Schedule

Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What You Will Do

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The PCT assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
• A PCT will collects and send specimens including blood and blood cultures and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
• Short Stay has 43 rooms (22 bays and 21 private rooms with door and bathroom)
• Short Stay unit usually has adult patients greater than 18 years old and treats post-surgical and post procedural patient.
• Length of stay can vary, post op patients are 24-48 hours; mix of observation and inpatient status patients so some pts can stay up to a week or so.
