Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a Patient Care Technician/Registrar to support safe, patient-centered care under a licensed nurse’s supervision. The role includes ensuring accurate handoffs, documenting care, and maintaining patient privacy in a busy hospital environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, BLS certification, and is prepared to meet state training requirements. The position is hourly, with variable shifts and 36 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.

Responsibilities

• Communicate accurate clinical information with patients, families, and staff at handoffs.
• Provide safe patient care under supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Note patient condition changes to the nurse and document necessary information.
• Demonstrate age-appropriate communication, considering fears, anxieties, and language/cultural barriers.
• Maintain real-time documentation of patient care.
• Protect patient privacy by safeguarding information and knocking before entering rooms.
• Respond to emergencies within the scope of practice.
• Support changes in practice to improve performance.
• Prioritize tasks and plan daily work around patient needs.
• Keep patient rooms and department areas clean and organized.
• Identify opportunities for quality improvement and support changes.
