Job summary

Atrium Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Tech to join the Float Pool. The role works with nurses and doctors to care for patients during the 7:00 pm–7:00 am shift, full-time (36 hours/week, 72 per pay period).

You will perform vital signs checks, assist with mobility and daily activities, collect specimens, and report patient changes to nurses. Orientation includes BLS CPR and hands-on training to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BLS CPR certificate required or provided at orientation.
  • Experience or training in patient care settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor temperature, heartbeat, and breathing (vital signs).
  • Assist patients with mobility, dressing and eating.
  • Collect samples such as urine for testing.
  • Report changes in patient condition to the nurse promptly.
  • Assist with patient walks, hygiene, weighing, and vitals as needed.

Position: Patient Care Tech

Department: Float Pool

Shift: 7:00 pm-7:00 am, Full-Time, 36 hours a week, 72 per pay period

Facility: Atrium Medical Center

A Patient Care Technician, or PCT, works with nurses and doctors to care for patients.

Some of the tasks they do are

  • Check things like temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Help with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, vitals

The PCT works under the supervision of the nurse, which means the nurse makes sure they are doing things safely and correctly. Qualifications

Education: You’ll need a high school diploma or GED.

Training: You’ll need to get a BLS CPR certificate. If you don’t already have it, they can teach you how to do CPR at your orientation, too (so you don't need to do it beforehand).

Experience: Successful completion of one of the following:

  1. Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  2. Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting
  3. Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.

Special Consideration: If the candidate has previous direct patient care experience, they may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation. This is in lieu of the above requirements.
