Job summary

Atrium Medical Center in Dayton seeks a Patient Care Technician to join the Float Pool. You will assist nurses and doctors, monitor vitals, help with mobility, meals, and basic samples, and report changes promptly.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and completion of BLS CPR. Training may be provided; prior STNA/CNA or PCT experience is a plus. This is part-time, 24 hours per week across 7:00 am–7:00 pm shifts.

Qualifications

  • BLS CPR certificate required; orientation may include CPR training.
  • Experience: STNA/CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training, or current nursing student with clinical rotation.
  • Strong communication and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
  • Assist patients with movement, dressing, and meals.
  • Collect samples (e.g., urine) and report changes to a nurse.
  • Assist with patient walks, hygiene, weighing, and positioning under supervision.
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks to help hospital run smoothly.

Position: Patient Care Tech

Department: Float Pool

Shift: 7:00 am-7:00 pm, part-time, 24 hours a week 48 per pay period

Facility: Atrium Medical Center

Our PCTs are expected to float (at any time during their shift) to MVH, MVHN, or MVHS.)

A Patient Care Technician, or PCT, works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. Some of the tasks they do are

  • Check things like temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Help with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, vitals

The PCT works under the supervision of the nurse, which means the nurse makes sure they are doing things safely and correctly. PCT’s are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and get healthy again!

Education: You'll need a high school diploma or GED.

Training: You'll need to get a BLS CPR certificate. If you don’t already have it, they can teach you how to do CPR at your orientation, too (so you don't need to do it beforehand).

Experience: Successful completion of one of the following:

  1. Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  2. Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting
  3. Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.
  • Special Consideration: If the candidate has previous direct patient care experience, they may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation. This is in lieu of the above requirements.
