Job summary

Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH seeks a Patient Care Technician to support the Heart and Vascular SE6 team. You'll work a 7:00 am - 7:30 pm shift, full-time (36 hours/week), under nurse supervision, delivering basic patient care and vital sign checks.

The role involves assisting with mobility, ADLs, and documentation; prior CNA/STNA training or PCT experience is preferred, and BLS CPR is required or taught during orientation.

Position: Patient Care Tech

Department: Heart and Vascular SE6

Shift: 7:00 am-7:30 pm Full Time 36 hours a week, 72 hours per pay period

Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

They collaborate with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients.

They can:

• Check vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate.
• Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating.
• Collect samples like urine.
• Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
• Walks, ADLs, Weighing Patients; Vitals

The PCT works under the supervision of a nurse, who ensures they are performing tasks safely and correctly. Sometimes, the PCT may also be referred to as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk (PCT/HUC). Like HUC, they assist with the paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly, which also helps patients receive the best care possible.

So, even though PCTs don't wear capes, they are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and recover their health.

Qualifications

Education: You'll need a high school diploma or GED.

Training: You'll need to get a BLS CPR certificate. If you don’t already have it, they can teach you how to do CPR at your orientation, too (so you don't need to do it beforehand).

1. Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
2. Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting
3. Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.

Special Consideration: If the candidate has previous direct patient care experience, they may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation. This is in lieu of the above requirements.
