Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a patient sitter to provide close observation under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role supports patient safety and comfort by remaining at the bedside and maintaining a clean, secure environment.

You will communicate any changes in patient activity or behavior to the nursing staff, assist with transfers and positioning as directed, and document data accurately to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience as a sitter, nursing assistant or medical assistant preferred.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Obtains verbal report from nurse including patient needs and barriers.
• Bedsides at patient room to maintain constant visual observation.
• Does not leave the patient alone unless instructed by the nurse.
• Provides for patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.
• Offers support to peers and staff and applies caring principles.
• Accompanies patient during tests/procedures as directed and stays within arm's length when required.
• Observes patient activity and reports changes to the nurse on a regular basis.
• Records data accurately and notifies nurse of changes.
• Participates in emergency codes following guidance from the nurse.
