Job summary

Northwestern Memorial is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses through direct and indirect patient care on the unit. You will be part of the patient care team, assisting with admissions, discharges, and daily comfort measures in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires CNA certification or current enrollment in a nursing program, with responsibilities spanning vital signs, specimen collection, newborn care, and basic life support.

Qualifications

• CNA certification or currently enrolled in nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care activities: assist with admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure.
• Measure and record intake and output including drains.
• Apply cardiac monitor/oximetry and obtain EKG.
• Provide newborn care and perform newborn screenings.
• Collect specimens (urine, stool, blood, sputum) and transport as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy and assist with post-operative care.
• Respond to patient call lights promptly and ensure comfort and safety.
• Assist with feeding, morning care, peri-care, and dressing.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment and stock supplies.
• Participate in QC and quality improvement activities.
• Follow "Patient's First" philosophy and assist in nursing procedures.
