Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a healthcare assistant to provide direct, age-appropriate care for pediatric patients under supervision. You will monitor vital signs, support daily living activities, and assist with feeding and mobility, while following care plans and maintaining a safe clinical environment.

Ideal candidates have a high school degree, BLS certification, and healthcare experience or clinical nursing coursework.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
  • Certification/completion of one of the following: CNA, MA, EMT, Military Corpsmen/Medic, or Nursing Aide Training Program.
  • Experience within a healthcare environment OR completion of foundations/clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
  • Knowledge of patient data collection and documentation, including vital signs, intake/output, and changes in patient condition.
  • Knowledge of basic hygiene and activities of daily living care.
  • Ability to assist with feeding, hydration, and nutrition.
  • Ability to assist with ambulation and patient mobility.
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate care.
  • Ability to wear PPE as needed.

  • Ability to perform shift work and meet listed requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, age-specific care to pediatric patients under supervision.
  • Monitor patient conditions and update the healthcare team.
  • Provide comfort, hygiene, safety, feeding, hydration, nutrition, ambulation, and mobility assistance.
  • Follow nursing and medical plans of care and policies.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, stocked clinical environment.
  • Maintain supplies, educational materials, equipment, and the care environment.
  • Identify patients accurately and report responses or incidents.
  • Record admissions data, vital signs, intake/output, and other information.
  • Collect specimens for diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and complete online requirements.
  • Participate in patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintain courteous rapport with patients, visitors, coworkers, and team members.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Job description

  • Provide direct, age-specific care to pediatric patients under the direction of an RN or licensed independent practitioner
  • Monitor patient conditions and update the healthcare team
  • Provide comfort, personal hygiene, safety, feeding, hydration, nutrition, ambulation, and mobility assistance
  • Follow nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe, clean, stocked clinical environment
  • Maintain supplies, educational materials, equipment, sterilized supplies and instruments, and the care environment
  • Identify patients accurately, observe safety goals, and report patient responses or incidents to licensed practitioners, managers, and registered nurses
  • Obtain and record admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information
  • Obtain or assist with collecting specimens for diagnostic or waived tests
  • Attend mandatory in-services and trainings and complete online training requirements
  • Participate in hospital, department, and unit patient safety initiatives
  • Maintain courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, coworkers, and healthcare team members
  • Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
