- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, mobility, and transport
- Demonstrate standard precautions, including care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice
- Perform technical duties as directed by RN/LPN, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, and Foley catheter care
- Document patient care and technical duties appropriately
- May perform phlebotomy and EKGs if certified
- Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN/LPN and respond appropriately
- Reinforce education for patients and families/responsible parties regarding individual care needs and safety issues
- Participate in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals
- Participate in performance improvement activities
- Assist in orientation of new hires
- Communicate with and support the healthcare team, patients, and patients’ families or significant others
- Maintain and demonstrate high standards of professional ethics
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Grade Equivalent Diploma (GED) required
- Successfully completed a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or have worked an equivalent of 1 year of direct patient care
- BLS certification
- Demonstrates required knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures and standards
- Must have strong communication skills
- Phlebotomy training/education is required for Emergency Department positions
- Phlebotomy experience required for Emergency Dept positions
- EKG experience preferred for Emergency Dept positions
- Enhances skills through ongoing education and training
- Maintains regulatory and departmental level competencies
