Job summary

Women & Infants Hospital in Rhode Island is seeking a Patient Services Assistant to perform nursing, phlebotomy and patient care tasks under the supervision of a professional nurse. You will collect and process blood samples, perform EKG tracings and support the health care team while attending to patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities include assisting with newborn and adult care, transporting patients, maintaining equipment, and supporting unit-based quality and infection control

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent with completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Training program and phlebotomy course.
  • Current RI CNA license and CPR certification required; phlebotomy training completion certificate.
  • Excellent telephone, interpersonal and writing skills; ability to relate technical information clearly.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and proficient in English.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in clinical care for newborns and adults and assesses appropriate behavior.
  • Provides personal care assistance and basic patient teaching to adults and infants; assists with bathing, dressing and feeding.
  • Performs venipuncture and heel sticks; collects specimens for lab testing.
  • Records phlebotomy results and reports findings.
  • Performs electrocardiograms (EKG) for adults.
  • Supports unit-based patient transport, specimen transport and equipment movement.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies, ensures safety and infection control.
  • Communicates effectively with health care team and patient family; participates in quality assurance and educational activities.
