Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus seeks a compassionate caregiver for the J5-2 Thoracic Surgery Stepdown Unit. You will assist with patient care under an RN, monitor vital signs, and help with activities of daily living and transfers in a fast-paced, high-quality environment.

Weekend and holiday rotation is required. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and BLS certification; military healthcare experience is valued.

Cleveland Clinic's J5-2 Thoracic Surgery Stepdown Unit has a unique, exciting and fast-paced environment and is dedicated to delivering excellent patient care. J5-2 specializes in esophagectomies, thoracotomies, hiatal hernia repairs, bilateral lung volume reduction, open-heart surgery preparation and congenital chest abnormality repairs, conducts procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis and Claggett's Window dressing change, and treats patients for heart failure, chest pain and cardiac arrhythmias. Nurses on this unit commonly use chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, Jejunostomy tubes with tube feeding, Jackson Pratt drains, and PCAs (patient-controlled analgesics).

A caregiver in this position works days, 7:00am-7:30pm. Weekend and holiday rotation.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• A high school diploma or GED
• Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.25

Maximum hourly: $24.95
