Job summary

Cleveland Clinic's Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery Intensive Care Units provide post-operative care for heart and vascular procedures. The caregiver on this fast-paced unit works 7:00am – 7:30pm, with weekend and holiday rotations.

You will assist with patient care under RN supervision, monitor vital signs, transports, dressing changes, and reporting changes. Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, BLS, and one year of full-time patient care experience; nursing students

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • BLS certification through the AHA or Red Cross within the new hire period.
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience.
  • Nursing students may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience.
  • Military experience as a HM, Combat Medic or similar will be considered.

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN; duties include vital signs, activities of daily living, transfers, and monitoring devices.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute cares for patients with a variety of heart, vascular and thoracic diseases and provides the highest level of patient care, innovative treatments and a welcoming environment to all.

J5-6 (12 beds) The patient population on this unit are a mix of cardiac post op and thoracic post op such as Pneumonectomy and esophagectomy. This is a faster paced unit as usually patients will come here for 1-2 days and then are transferred to a SDU. The patients are admitted and transferred quickly (flipping the unit).

The Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery Intensive Care Units specialize in the post-operative acute care of patients requiring heart surgery, open and endovascular thoraco and abdominal aneurysm repairs, as well thoracic and other vascular surgical procedures. All post-operative patients come directly from the operating room and are recovered, stabilized, weaned, and extubated in these units. The unit accepts complex patients from other facilities that may have had surgical complications, or those needing further evaluation for patients that other facilities may not have considered to be surgical candidates.

A caregiver in this position works 7:00am – 7:30pm. Weekend and holiday rotation are required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period (Nursing students required to have BLS prior to hire)
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience
  • Additional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience)
  • Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
Physical Requirements
  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $19.25

Maximum hourly: $25.95
