A Brief Overview

The Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN. Duties include, but are not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable). Familiarity with using wheelchairs, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned populations is required. Assists with patient data collection, reporting, maintains patient records (written and electronic), facilitates communication, and orients newly hired PCNAs.

What You Will Do

• Perform basic patient care tasks as delegated by the RN and assist in implementing the established plan of care.
• Interact with patients, families, and peers with compassion.
• Follow evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes.
• Ensure a safe environment in patient rooms and on the unit.
• Assist with stocking and ordering supplies for patient care.
• Support unit communication.
• Serve as a resource for onboarding and training new team members.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.
• Refer to departmental documentation during orientation for specific duties.
• Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI), adhering to annual training, UH Code of Conduct, and policies.
