Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, OH seeks a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) for the Nursing Resource Pool. This part-time role is onsite with a 24-hour weekly schedule and weekend/holiday rotation from 7:00pm to 7:30am.

The PCA provides continuous observation and direct patient care under supervision, maintains a safe environment, and documents in EPIC, contributing to high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Minimum one year of relevant healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients.
• Perform direct patient care such as vital signs and patient transport under supervision.
• Maintain a safe environment and alert staff to signs of distress.
• Document observations and interventions accurately in EPIC.
• Stock linens and supplies and complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner.
• Follow hospital protocols and procedures for patient observation and safety.

Summary

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides continuous observation and individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

• 1. Provide continuous, one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients.
• 2. Provide evidence-based de-escalation interventions
• 3. Maintain a safe environment for self, patients and others
• 4. Remain alert and attentive at all times to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient.
• 5. Provide direct patient care such as vital signs and transporting patients to other departments as delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• 6. Stock linens and supplies
• 7. Document observations, interventions, and any pertinent information accurately and in a timely manner within EPIC
• 8. Prioritize and execute task for the assigned patients in a timely and efficient manner
• 9. Alert nursing staff promptly to any signs of distress, discomfort, or changes in the patient's condition.
• 10. Maintain a calm and professional presence for the patient and their family members.
• 11. Follow all hospital or facility protocols and procedures related to patient observation and safety.
• 12. Other duties as assigned.

Other information

Technical Expertise

• 1. Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology preferred.
• 2. Experience working in healthcare environment is preferred.
• 3. Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
• 4. Experience working in an electronic medical record (i.e. EPIC) or similar software is preferred.

Education and Experience

• 1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required
• 2. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required.
• 4. Years of relevant experience: Minimum one (1) year of experience is preferred
• 5. Years of supervisory experience: None
