Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Patient Care Assistant for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The role involves caring for post-anesthesia patients, taking vital signs, assisting with daily activities, and ensuring smooth handoffs to inpatient units.

The position offers 40 hours per week with rotating Day/Night shifts and a $750 sign-on bonus for eligible new employees. Lifting requirements and strong teamwork are essential in this busy PACU setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• BLS Certification preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant or EMT or Nursing Assistant preferred.
• 0–1 year patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs, weights and measurements.
• Complete documentation in the medical record.
• Interact with patients and families.
• Assist with daily living activities and hygiene.
• Turn and reposition patients and assist mobility.
• Report health concerns to the nursing team.

Job Summary

A $750.00 sign on bonus is being offered to eligible new employees hired in our PCA positions.

Schedule

40-hour | Day/Night shift | (2) 12-hour shifts & (2) 8-hour shifts OR (5) 8-hour shifts-7a -7p, 7a-3p and 7p-7a, 11p-7a. Require one weekend shift per month -a Saturday or Sunday.

The Opportunity: Patient Care Assistant - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

This unit prefers at least one year of inpatient acute care experience.

This unit prefers a professional license or certification: Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT or other critical care training.

Apply if you are able to work both Day and Night shift.

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions

• Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.


• Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.


• Interacts with patients and their families effectively.


• Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.


• Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.


• Listens to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials

• Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred.


• Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred.


• Emergency Medical Technician - Basic [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred.


• Nursing Assistant - Massachusetts Board of Nursing preferred.

Experience

Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.


• Knowledge of medical terminology.


• Strong patient/customer service skills.


• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.


• Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
