Job summary

UVM Health - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital seeks a Clinical Assistant to join the patient care team on Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care units. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, CAs take and record vital signs, assist with patient tests and specimen collection, and support patients with daily living activities.

CAs are responsible for accurate communication, documentation, and maintaining a harmonious, customer-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED with ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
• Previous nurse aide experience or completed nurse aide training program or PLA competency training.
• AHA-BLS required within 6 months of hire or current non-AHA-BLS honored up to renewal date.
• Competency to perform Heimlich Maneuver.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, and prioritize.
• Pre-employment screening and physical exam required.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care: works under the direction of RNs to provide responsive, service-oriented patient care.
• Testing: conducts various patient tests and specimen collection as directed by RN.
• Clerical: functions as the 'front door' to the unit providing customer service-oriented communication and clerical support.
