Job summary

The University of Vermont Health Network is seeking a Clinical Assistant in the Resource Float team to support Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care units at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Under RN supervision, you will take vital signs, collect specimens, assist patients with daily living activities, and ensure accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• High school grad or equivalent with ability to read, write, and understand medical terminology.
• Previous nurse aide experience or completed nurse aide training or other relevant clinical experience that required ambulating, bathing and feeding of patients.
• If no CNA certificate, must be able to show competence prior to starting.
• Willingness to use positive communication while performing job duties.
• Ability to perform detailed assignments, work under pressure, and relate to patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors.
• Ability to use basic computer skills.
• Willingness to attend CVPH education requirements satisfactorily.
• Meets requirement for pre-employment screening and physical exam.
• Competency to perform CPR and Heimlich Maneuver.
• Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, take direction and prioritize.

The Resource Float department provides support to the Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care inpatient units within Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. As a member of the Resource Float Clinical Assistant team, staff members are assigned daily to units that require additional support throughout the included areas of the hospital.

CAs are an integral part of hands-on patient care. Working under the direction and supervision of a RN, they have the ability to take and record vital signs, perform designated tests and collecting patient samples, and supporting patients in all activities of daily living. CAs meet patients and their families as they enter the unit, welcoming and acclimating them to the unit. CAs interact with unit staff, physicians, and other hospital department personnel. It is critical that CAs provide timely and accurate communication, accurate documentation and maintain a harmonious, team oriented, customer friendly environment. CAs must be able to function competently in a computerized medical setting.

The three principal duties of this position are:
