Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to provide continuous observation and individualized care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This PRN on-site role supports patient safety and comfort in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include one-on-one monitoring, documenting vital signs in EPIC, assisting with patient transport, maintaining a safe environment, and following hospital protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification required (American Heart Association).
• At least 1 year of healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) required.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients.
• Provide de-escalation interventions as needed.
• Maintain a safe environment for patient and staff.
• Remain alert and attentive to ensure patient safety.
• Assist with vital signs and transporting patients as delegated by a licensed nurse.
• Stock linens and supplies.
• Document observations and interventions accurately in EPIC.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides continuous observation and individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients.
• Provide evidence-based de-escalation interventions
• Maintain a safe environment for self, patients and others
• Remain alert and attentive at all times to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient.
• Provide direct patient care such as vital signs and transporting patients to other departments as delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Stock linens and supplies
• Document observations, interventions, and any pertinent information accurately and in a timely manner within EPIC
• Prioritize and execute task for the assigned patients in a timely and efficient manner
• Alert nursing staff promptly to any signs of distress, discomfort, or changes in the patient's condition.
• Maintain a calm and professional presence for the patient and their family members.
• Follow all hospital or facility protocols and procedures related to patient observation and safety.
• Other duties as assigned.

Other Information

Technical Expertise

• Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology preferred.
• Experience working in healthcare environment is preferred.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
• Experience working in an electronic medical record (i.e. EPIC) or similar software is preferred.

Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required.
• Years of relevant experience: Minimum one (1) year of experience is preferred
• Years of supervisory experience: None
