Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months billing or follow-up experience in a healthcare setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Knowledge of billing and collection practices.
• Familiarity with insurance payers and verification.
• Proficient in data entry and basic computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients courteously and relay information to hospital departments.
• Perform online registration and create patient files in the system.
• Collect deposits and payments, explain financial requirements, and record transactions.
• Obtain verification/authorization from primary and secondary payers.
• Prepare pre-admission and admitting/discharge forms.
• Review admissions for accurate biographical and financial data.
• Obtain patient signatures and distribute copies of documents.
• Provide care-areas oriented service addressing age-appropriate needs.
• Explain charges and hospital billing policies to patients and families.
• Handle billing inquiries and complete the billing process.
• Follow up on accounts until balance is zero or sent to collections.
• Maintain records and reports; participate in training.
• Other duties as assigned.
