The Patient Biller
is responsible for answering calls and fielding billing questions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer incoming patients and provider phone calls in a professional and courteous manner
- Respond to billing‑related questions, including charges, payments, insurance coverage, and account balances
- Document all patient interactions and updates in the billing system
- Assist patients with payment options, account resolutions, and billing discrepancies
- Verify patient insurance and demographic information as needed
- Follow up on outstanding inquiries and unresolved billing issues
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
- Collaborate with internal departments (coding, insurance, clinical staff) to resolve billing concerns
- Meet quality, productivity, and customer service standards
- Ensure accuracy in processing payments, updating records, and handling insurance information
- Other duties may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Ability to handle high call volumes and multitask effectively
- Proficiency in computer systems and electronic health records (EHR)
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills
- Strong knowledge of medical billing and coding practices
- Familiarity with ICD‑10, CPT, HCPCS
- Strong insurance knowledge
- Must demonstrate strong analytical skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Must have strong critical thinking skills
- Maintains effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment
- Ability to work independently without close supervision

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High School or Equivalent
- Minimum of 1‑3 years’ experience in medical billing preferred
