Job summary

Medical Specialists of the Palm Beaches, Inc. (MSPB) seeks a Patient Benefits Coordinator to verify insurance eligibility, coordinate benefits, and secure authorizations. You will maintain patient records, assist with inquiries, and ensure accurate coding and timely referrals.

Proficiency in CPT/ICD-10 coding, Athena EMR, and insurance billing systems is required, with strong organizational and communication skills to support a cooperative healthcare team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in a medical office environment is required.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPC coding and billing systems.
• Proficiency with insurance workflows and Athena EMR preferred.
• Ability to handle interruptions, adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.
• Strong time management, organization and communication skills.
• Commitment to teamwork and maintaining a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Verify benefits and insurance eligibility prior to appointments.
• Enter accurate insurance data into the healthcare system, including co-pays and referrals.
• Obtain and document insurance authorizations promptly.
• Apply correct coding and modifiers per LCD guidelines.
• Assist patients with insurance inquiries in person and by phone.
• Secure and document referrals before patient visits.
• Maintain knowledge of accepted plans for each physician or location.
• Manage accounts receivable and set up payment arrangements.
• Sort, scan and file medical records in electronic charts.
• Process daily mail and manage daily task lists.
• Check and respond to emails in a timely manner.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
