Patient and Equipment Transporter - Full Time 2nd Shift
Join us at Advocate Health as a Patient and Equipment Transporter for a full-time 2nd shift role.
Responsibilities
- Lift and transport patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and safety using correct body mechanics. Make patients comfortable by being attentive and offering blankets, while following all posted precautions.
- Transport patients and other items such as belongings, specimens, carts, and equipment to designated locations.
- Immediately notify clinical staff of any changes in patient condition or equipment issues during transport.
- Verify patient identity by comparing printed tickets and wristbands, and document accurately.
- Use electronic software to track assignment statuses, including initiation, completion, delays, or cancellations.
- Collect, disinfect, inspect, and maintain transport equipment, reporting any repairs needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Handle collection of patient equipment from utility rooms and, when necessary, pick-up and deliver patient medications (excluding controlled substances).
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), obtainable within 6 months if not already held.
- No formal education or prior experience required.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Completion of safe patient handling training within one month of start date.
- Ability to assess equipment safety and determine optimal routes within the hospital.
Physical and Work Environment
- Ability to walk up to 95% of the workday, with capacity to sit, stand, lift, squat, and twist as needed.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, contagious diseases, biohazards, and radiation; protective clothing required.
- Operate necessary equipment, including repetitive foot movements.
- Lift up to 35 pounds independently; for heavier lifts or unassisted patients, use patient handling equipment with a team member.
