Overview

JOB CODE: PTADVOCF

POSITION TYPE: Non-Direct

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Support patient rights efforts through educating patients and families, guiding complaint/grievance processes, and reporting unresolved threats to patient safety to appropriate staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Facilitate patient/family grievance process, including processing complaints, forwarding them to the appropriate manager, and communicating resolutions to the complainant.
  2. Collaborate with staff to develop acceptable resolutions to potential complaints.
  3. Identify process deficiencies that may threaten patient rights or safety.
  4. Maintain up-to-date complaint and grievance logs.
  5. Work with risk management and department managers to ensure timely and appropriate handling of patient concerns.
  6. Participate in new hire orientation to educate staff on patient safety and advocacy.
  7. Identify critical customer service needs and discuss them with supervisors and medical staff.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in a clinical field preferred.
  • Experience in customer service or risk management preferred.
  • Experience working with behavioral health patients preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire and available through the facility).
  • First aid certification may be required depending on state or facility requirements.
