Job summary

Avera St. Mary’s Hospital is seeking an Admissions Specialist to register patients, establish accounts and medical record numbers, verify insurance and collect payments. This PRN, day/evening/weekend/holiday shift role requires accuracy and strong communication with patients and care teams.

You will coordinate with patients and staff, perform insurance verifications and pre-certifications, and ensure privacy under HIPAA while supporting efficient admissions workflows.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work the hours specified.
• Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and staff.
• HIPAA privacy and compliance understanding.

Responsibilities

• Register patients accurately and create accounts and medical record numbers.
• Verify insurance coverage, pre-certification and/or authorization for accounts.
• Collect patient co-payments, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses.
• Coordinate communication with patients, employees, providers and external agencies.
• Assist with bed assignments and monitor registration workflow.
