MercyOne in Newton, IA is seeking a senior leader to oversee Patient Access operations on the 1st shift. The role focuses on strategic delivery, staffing, and KPI reporting to ensure compliant and efficient patient access processes.

The candidate will supervise multiple functional areas, drive standardization, and coordinate with regional leaders to optimize performance and value delivery in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Three to Five years of leadership experience within Patient Access.
  • Five years of relevant experience in areas such as Registration, Insurance Verification/Financial Clearance, Financial Counseling.
  • Certification HFMA CHFP or CRCR or NAHAM CHAM required within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all functional areas of hospital patient access including outpatient and ER registration, admissions, bed assignment & financial counseling.
  • Monitor patient tracking, registration reports and financial clearance activities to meet performance standards.
  • Oversee financial clearance and ensure accounts are verified at time of service and meet medical necessity.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to assigned team and disseminate policy updates.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to optimize policy, process and governance across regions.

Enable Collaboration across & within service area, RHM & Regions to ensure consistency & integration of strategy & operations
Direction & Growth:
Providing advice, guidance & leadership to service area, functional area, RHM & Regions.
Leading standardization / systemness & optimization of policy, process, methodology, establishing a national community of practice.
Oversee Vendor / Contract Labor Management including centralizing strategy & optimizing spend.
Strategic Support & Accountability:
Collaborates in system-wide strategy development & deployment of functional area priorities & initiatives.
Responsible for supporting regional efforts to comply with functional area priorities.
Accountable for the selection, evaluation & overall success of the functional leadership teams.
Organization-wide focal point for establishing functional strategies & governance over financials & staffing.
Accountable for communication between service area functional area, RHM & Region leaders.
Operational Delivery
Responsible for measuring & reporting KPIs / metrics &value delivery.
Providing advice, guidance & leadership for the colleague life cycle.
Maintains a Working Knowledge of applicable federal, state & local laws / regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior & safe work practices.

FUNCTIONAL ROLE

  • Maintains &demonstratesknowledge to successfully supervise each functional area of the hospital including, but not limited to all outpatient registration points, emergency room registration, admissions, bed assignment & financial counseling.

  • Regularlymonitorsthe patient tracking system, registrationreports& financialclearance activities to ensure patients are registered within key performance standards.

  • Monitors all financial clearance activity ensuring all accounts are verified at time of service & meet medical necessity requirements.

  • Coordinatesinvestigation & appropriate resolutionof problems from patient/family or staff complaints.

  • Resolvespatient questionsregardingpayment requirements/charges referred by the registrars.

  • Provides operational guidance & support to assignedteam,disseminatespolicy/procedure updates, supportscoverage of other departmental divisions asrequired.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field of study or equivalent combination of education & / or experience.

Three (3) to Five (5) years of leadership experience within Patient Access

Five (5) years of relevant experience in functional areas of Patient Access such as Registration,

Insurance Verification/Financial Clearance, Financial Counseling, or other relevant experience.

Obtain national certification in HFMA CHFP or CRCR or NAHAM CHAM required within one (1) year of hire.
