Job summary

Bishop & Company seeks an ASC Patient Access Representative to support the Business Office at an ambulatory surgery center. You will handle patient registration, check-in/check-out, insurance verification, and collections in a fast-paced environment.

Primary duties include chart preparation, medical records management, and HIPAA-compliant communications. The role requires strong customer service, organization, and attention to detail. Honolulu location, full-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: Minimum one (1) year of clerical experience in a medical office, clinic, ambulatory surgery center, or healthcare setting.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Familiarity with medical records and healthcare office processes.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional telephone etiquette.
• Typing proficiency of 35-45 words per minute.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients and visitors throughout check-in/check-out.
• Register patients verifying demographics, insurance, authorization, and account information in registration and EHR systems.
• Explain and obtain signatures for forms.
• Collect patient co-pays, deductibles, and balances; process payments.
• Maintain and retrieve patient charts and medical records under HIPAA guidelines.
• Coordinate pre-operative registration activities with physician offices.
• Answer and route telephone calls and respond to inquiries.
• Process requests for patient information in accordance with HIPAA and policies.
• Maintain accurate records to support clinical, operational, and billing functions.
• Collaborate with patients, physicians, and team members to promote a positive experience.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety practices.
