Patient Access Representative
Bishop & Company is seeking an ASC Patient Access Representative to provide administrative and operational support to the Business Office/Admin for an an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) that provides same-day, outpatient surgical care.
Position Summary
The ASC Patient Access Representative serves as a key point of contact for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This position is responsible for patient registration, check-in/check-out processes, insurance verification, payment collection, chart preparation, medical records management, and telephone communications. The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-focused, detail-oriented, and committed to providing an exceptional patient experience while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients and visitors, providing exceptional customer service throughout the check-in and check-out process.
- Register patients by verifying demographic, insurance, authorization, and account information in registration and EHR systems.
- Explain and obtain required signatures for registration, consent, financial, and facility-related forms.
- Collect patient co-payments, deductibles, and balances due; process payments and issue receipts.
- Prepare, maintain, audit, scan, file, and retrieve patient charts and medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate pre-operative registration activities and communicate with physician offices regarding required documentation.
- Answer and route telephone calls professionally and respond to patient inquiries.
- Process requests for patient information in accordance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support clinical, operational, and billing functions.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, physicians, and team members to promote a positive patient experience.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support organizational goals, compliance standards, and workplace safety practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum one (1) year of clerical experience in a medical office, clinic, ambulatory surgery center, or healthcare setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Familiarity with medical records and healthcare office processes.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional telephone etiquette.
- Typing proficiency of 35-45 words per minute.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a medical office, clinic, ambulatory surgery center, or healthcare environment.
- One (1) year of experience in patient registration, scheduling, medical records, or patient access functions.
- Experience using electronic health record (EHR) and patient registration systems.
- Experience verifying insurance eligibility and obtaining authorizations.
- Experience collecting patient payments and maintaining payment records.
- Knowledge of medical records management and healthcare regulations.

- Pay Rate: $23-$25/hr. dependent on experience
