Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assign MRNs and perform medical necessity/compliance checks.
• Provide patient instructions, collect insurance information, and process orders.
• Operate the telephone switchboard for calls.
• Maintain point-of-service goals and use auditing/reporting systems.
• Conduct audits of accounts to meet audit standards.
• Pre-register patient accounts before visits, collecting demographics and insurance information.
• Collect point-of-service payments and address past-due balances with payment plans.
• Explain consent forms and distribute Medicare/Tricare materials and ABN forms.
• Verify insurance eligibility and enter benefit data to support billing processes.
• Screen medical necessity using ABN software.
• Distribute forms and patient education pamphlets.

Position: Patient Access Specialist at Mercy – St. Joseph Warren Hospital in Warren, OH. This onsite role conducts admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital while meeting regulatory compliance requirements and supporting organizational mission and goals.

Work Schedule and Location

Onsite at Mercy – St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Hours: 2:30p‑11p every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate MRNs and complete medical necessity/compliance checks.
• Provide patient instructions, collect insurance information, and process physician orders.
• Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls.
• Maintain point‑of‑service goals and use quality auditing/reporting systems to correct accounts.
• Conduct audits of accounts; ensure all forms are complete and timely to meet audit standards.
• Pre‑register patient accounts prior to visits, obtaining demographics, insurance, and financial liability information.
• Collect point‑of‑service collections and address past‑due balances, including payment plan options.
• Explain consent for treatment forms, obtain signatures, and distribute patient education documents such as Medicare and Tricare notice forms, MOON form, and consent forms.
• Verify insurance eligibility, select applicable plan codes, and enter benefit data to support point‑of‑service collections and billing processes.
• Screen medical necessity using Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software and distribute ABN as appropriate.
• Document and distribute other designated forms and pamphlets.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of customer service experience (preferably in a medical or healthcare setting).
• High School Diploma or GED required; additional education in medical administration, registration, or healthcare preferred.
• CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire (company paid).
• Strong communication skills and openness to innovation, including use of AI to improve processes.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
