Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years healthcare related or customer service experience.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers preferred.
• Associate or bachelor degree may be accepted in lieu of experience.
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.
• Typing skills with a minimum of 35 wpm and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in coordination, prioritization and completion of front-end patient registration activities ranging from pre-registration through discharge in the Patient Access Services Department.
• Verify patient insurance requirements are met.
• Accurately complete patient registrations based on departmental protocols and regulatory compliance.
• Call patients to pre-register or confirm appointments.
• Prioritize work for optimal reimbursement and to minimize financial risk for patient and hospital.
• Inform patients of financial liability and collect liability due.
• Refer uninsured patients to a financial counselor as appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information in compliance with HIPAA and related regulations.
• Follow EMTALA, CMS and JCAHO guidelines and maintain knowledge of department system applications.
