Duration: March 10, 2025 – September 6, 2025

Pay Rate: $15/hr – $17.00/hour

Training: 3 weeks, M-F 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM Eastern

Regular Schedule: M-F 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Eastern

Position Summary

Under the supervision of an Operations Manager, the Patient Access Specialist provides advanced services to patients, providers, and caregivers for a manufacturer-sponsored program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist patients, providers, and caregivers with:
  2. Billing and coding support
  3. Claims assistance, tracking, and submission
  4. Prior authorization assistance and tracking
  5. Coordination of benefits
  6. Welcome calls
  7. Advanced alternate coverage research
  8. Appeals/Denials processing
  9. Intake and reporting of adverse events as directed
  10. Deliver exceptional customer service and escalate complaints as needed.
  11. Serve as a regional expert on payer trends, reporting issues such as billing/claim denials and pricing errors.
  12. Process necessary correspondence.
  13. Coordinate with internal and external service providers to meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  14. Work on moderately complex problems, exercising judgment within defined procedures.
  15. Operate independently from a queue (phone or system) while adhering to standard operating procedures.
  16. Perform additional related duties, such as benefit verifications and patient assistance program determinations.

Experience & Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred training in business administration, accounting, computer sciences, medical billing and coding, or customer service.
  • 4+ years of directly related experience required.
  • A two-year degree may substitute for 2 years of experience; a four-year degree may substitute for 4 years.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced interpersonal, mathematical, and organizational skills.
  • Basic analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, pharmacy operations, and medical claims.
  • Familiarity with medical industry terminology and healthcare billing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Standard office environment (remote).
  • Sedentary work involving sitting, reaching, lifting, and typing.
  • Prolonged screen time (75% or more).
  • Ability to manage stressful situations as they arise.
